Helpful Tips & Answers to Common Questions

What should I do when I lose power to my building or home?

Your best bet is to call FPL at (954) 797-5000 first.  Chances are they will be able to restore power or advise you to call an electrician.
Our phone number: (954) 493-9411.

What should I do if I lose power to the refrigerator?

Try installing a 3 wire extension cord and using a nearby outlet that is working.

Did you know that if you hire someone that is not licensed and insured and they are injured while working for you they may look to you for damages?

Some common Questions & Answers:

Q. Could you tell me if I need an electrical permit to install under counter lighting in my kitchen?

A. It is my understanding that as long as the fixtures can be plugged in you do not need a permit. Any new wiring for these fixtures should have an electrical permit.

Q. We have recently purchased a new copy machine for our office. We notice that when the machine is on the overhead lights blink. Do you know what causes this?

A. We have found many instances where the wall outlets and overhead lights are on the same circuit. To correct this problem you may want to install a dedicated circuit to the copy machine.

Q. Our insurance company is asking for a thermo graphic survey of our electrical distribution equipment. Would you tell me what is involved in the test?

A. Thermo graphic testing involves using an inferred thermometer. We would need to open your electrical equipment and measure the temperature on the wire connections, circuit breakers and knife switches. The temperatures are recorded and show potential overheating problems. We use this as a form of preventative maintenance.

When you are going to attempt to perform your own electrical repair, there are a few important precautions you should take:

  1. Shut off circuit breaker to the device.

  2. Use a meter or tester to be sure the electricity is off and no other circuits are live in the device.

  3. Use insulated tools to help avoid electrical shocks.

  4. Be very certain you can perform the repair safely and confidently.

  5. Test your work thoroughly.

  6. Next time call Al Siefert Electric.

When trimming trees, hanging holiday lights or repairing roofs and gutters make sure you are aware of the power lines in the area and avoid them. Aluminum ladders conduct electricity.
